Middle School Art
Art is all around us – in every possible medium, through every minute of every day. Whether it is a Rembrandt hanging in a museum or a well-designed piece of furniture, a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical or an excellent public speaker, Pavarotti or Taylor Swift, – it’s all Art. Participation in the arts will allow your student to understand it all and have the opportunity to find his or her own artistic voice.
Vocal and Instrumental Music
Through the vocal and instrumental music program at Concordia Preparatory School, students will develop musical excellence, leadership skills, teamwork concepts, character, and creativity to be used in a lifetime of service to the Lord. Our priority is musical ministry coupled with superior performance. Students will have the opportunity to perform on campus as well as at churches, schools and community functions.
Courses offered: Introduction to Choral and Handbells, Beginning Band, Intermedia Band, Prep Band, and Music Appreciation. The Middle School band and choirs perform at weekly Chapels, at area Lutheran elementary schools and churches, and in the Christmas and Spring Arts Festival.
Visual Arts and Drama
The Visual Arts program at Concordia Preparatory School provides an opportunity for all students to explore their God-given creative talents. Students have the opportunity to take four years of visual arts courses in which to create a portfolio of work. Regardless of the student’s intentions, it has been documented that students who participate in the fine arts become more aware and are better prepared for higher education and the aesthetic experiences of life yet to come.
Courses Offered:
Introduction to Art I: In this course students are introduced to the elements and principles of art through a variety of hands on projects using various mediums. Introduction to Art II: This course is a continuation of the skills and media explored in the first level. Projects will include subjects about Abstract Art, Pop Art, Optical Art, and Weaving. Sketchbook assignments will continue to build on the students drawing skill. Student work will be exhibited
