From Middle School Principal Mr. Curtis Miller
Happy New Year! As another year turns, people throughout the world look back at the previous year and celebrate a new year and a new beginning. Often this brings about resolution or goals for a new year and we all say, “This is the year…”. Resolutions and goals are the beginning of change and often the mental first step towards changing or improving who we are as people. JP Morgan states “The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are.” Lao Tzu adds “A journey of a thousand miles beings with a single step.”
As the new semester is upon us, often students celebrate being halfway through the year, but yet others look at the daunting tasks ahead of them. A single step or a single decision can be the beginning of achieving goals big and small. Each monumental goal starts with a little step and it begins to grow. Our relationships with Jesus Christ is often the same. If we take a little bit of time with our Savior or if we take a minute to remind ourselves to be thankful or pray, we find our desire to be with Christ will grow. Christ gives us the power and courage to be agents of change and it only takes a little seed to grow a tree. Warren Buffett says “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” One small decision can leave a great legacy and change the world.
I pray God provides you the strength and courage to be an agent of change for Him in this world. I pray as we celebrate a new beginning, a new year, or a new semester we take the first step in courage knowing our Lord and Savior is there to guide and protect us. “This is the year….” I hope you achieve your resolutions or goals and your celebration can be turned over the Lord and all he has done to equip and empower you. Just remember if you fall short, Romans 8:38-39 gives us reassurance “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor anything present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Throughout it, all the love of God will remain for each and every one of us. Take the first step! Embark on a new journey! Achieve new goals! Let 2 Timothy 1:7 be your encouragement, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” God’s richest blessings on your new year!
