From Upper School Principal Mrs. Ruth Heilman
NEEDED: Cloth for the Cradle…among other things
Sunday, December 3, is the first Sunday of Advent! Advent is a time of joy-filled hope and expectation, preparing for the most wonderful Christmas Guest. We prepare for the coming of Christ, the Newborn King, and our Newborn Savior.
In many families, there is great hope and expectation as parents prepare for the blessing of a new life, a child of God’s creation. This planning means painting the baby’s room, purchasing furniture, putting together the crib, and receiving clothing and supplies from family and friends. For some new mothers, however, waiting for the birth of a child and caring for their new baby means concern about how to provide for this new life. Many do not have a safe and warm home, family, or friends to help prepare a place for the child.
We cannot imagine what it must have been like for Joseph and Mary, but we do know that their baby, Jesus, brought with Him the ultimate hope and joy. He came into a broken world and paid for all of our sins. We celebrate His birth and wait for His return when we will experience the greatest joys of heaven for all eternity.
From December 1 – 15, CPS is collecting items for a “Baby Shower for Jesus.” When Jesus was born and placed in a manger, there were no baby showers or fancy cribs. To celebrate His coming, the angels sang and the shepherds worshiped the Christ child. We will kick off our celebration this Friday with a special dress down day. The “price” to go out of dress code is either an item from the attached list or a $3 donation. We will continue to collect items through December 15, to be received by The Lutheran Mission Society for their Compassion Centers the following week. Please follow the link for a list of needed items, and donate as generously as you are able. Thank you for sharing your shower of blessings with those in need. Let’s Stuff the LMS Truck with love, prayers, and gifts!
May God give you a spirit of hope and expectation as we prepare for His coming! Happy Advent, and Merry Christmas!
