What is a leader? How important is leadership? At Concordia Preparatory School, one of five core values is leadership. Leadership can be defined in many different ways. Here is one definition that rings true, “Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go; leadership is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring.” Leaders are developed through experiences and an initiative to take the risk of directing other people. The Concordia Prep Juniors and Seniors have this outstanding opportunity at their fingertips this school year as they lead their mentees.
The Mentor and Mentee Program will be led by the juniors and seniors this year as they develop activities and programs to be leaders for all middle school students. How great the impact can be for students in their middle school years to have a high school mentor and friend to encourage them. The impact the 11th-12the Religion classes will have this year by having first-hand experiences in leading, developing, and realizing their own potential as a leader. Leadership is not about self, but about everyone else you impact by your God-given skills. The Mentor and Mentee Program is about leadership, but it is also about service.
Parents know how young people learn more through experience and seeing their parents action than through what is often said. What a wonderful opportunity to take the lesson of religion class and put them into action. James 2:26 states “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” Faith, service, and leadership in action is a beautiful thing to see and experience.
