SAINTS CAPTURE ANOTHER MARQUE WIN; FRIENDS AND AACS TIE IN MIAA B
The newest member of the MIAA B Conference soccer league is Concordia Prep, fresh off its MIAA C Conference title from a year ago, and the Saints are showing they belong.
Monday, Concordia traveled to Severn School to face the three-time defending B Conference champs and the Saints (3-1-1 overall) came away with a very impressive 3-1 win.
Andrew Schnaack, Taylor Calheira and Angelo Poblete each scored a goal for the Saints, while Barrett Young, Reuben Devaney and Bailey Barber offered assists.
Deven McCarty, with an assist from his brother Jack, scored for 18th-ranked Severn (3-3 overall, 2-1 MIAA B).
After opening its season with a win and a tie, respectively, against MIAA A Conference teams Archbishop Spalding and John Carroll, Concordia is off to a 2-1 start in the B Conference. The Saints only blemish in league play thus far was a loss to Friends School, which is now 3-0-1 in league play (and overall) after its 2-2 draw with Annapolis Area Christian on Monday in Baltimore.
AACS took an early 1-0 lead when Luke Eberle converted a penalty kick after being fouled in the box by Friends’ goalkeeper Liam Cullen. Friends got the equalizer, later in the first half, on a goal by Mike Klausner.
The Quakers moved in front in the second half when Steve Bogusky worked the ball down the right side and centered it for Paul Benzer, who buried a shot inside the near post. AACS (1-2-1 overall and MIAA B) countered with a score off of a free kick and the teams completed regulation and a pair of overtime periods without further scoring, as they each collected one point in the standings.
