Concordia Prep School Hires Mr. Alphonso Eford Jr. as Head Varsity Basketball Coach
Concordia Prep is pleased to announce that Mr. Alphonso Eford, Jr. has been hired as the new Head Varsity Basketball Coach. Mr. Eford brings over 25 years of head coaching experience to the Concordia Prep program.
Mr. Eford grew up in Harlem, NY and began his coaching career at Manhattan Center High School and at the Riverside Church AAU program. During his tenure there, he coached many future professional basketball players including Ron Artest III, Lamar Odom, Erick Barkley, and Rafer Alston who all played in the NBA and other players who attended division 1 schools.
He then coached at LaSalle Academy in New York City, where he coached Lenny Cooke and won the NYC Catholic City JV Championship in 1999. He moved onto college and coached at Fairfield University from 1999 to 2001, St. Paul College CIAA from 2001-2003, and Howard University from 2003-2004. He returned to coaching high school in 2004 and coached at Regional Lewis High School in Baltimore from 2004-2007, Boca Rotan High School in Florida from 2007-2008, Carver Vo Tech High School in Baltimore from 2008-2014, and the Friends School of Baltimore from 2014-2017.
He played at the University of Wyoming from 1974-1977 and also played professional basketball for seven years in Europe, Mexico, and South America.
Now part of the Concordia Prep family, Mr. Eford brings his love of the game and considerable experience to create a winning tradition here at CPS.
